Institution Notes:
While not a teaching institution, the Contemporary Music Centre, founded in 1986, documents and promotes Irish music. It is the national archive and resource centre for new Irish music in both the Republic and Northern Ireland. The library holds an audiovisual archive of some 10,000 recordings of Irish music and over 9,000 copies of works by more than 220 Irish composers - the only comprehensive collection of music by Irish composers in existence. The Centre organises visits to schools by composers. It issues 'New Music Alive' - sets of lesson plans for school music teachers to introduce the principles of music composition to their students, with some use of computers and music technology.
