Sarjana S1 (=Bachelor of Arts). Studies in traditional music, (karawitan), performance (gamelan, guitar), Western music history and theory, ethnomusicology, shadow puppet theatre, traditional dance and crafts.

Sarjana S2 (=Master of Arts). In composition, artistic studies. This degree was offered for the first time in 2000. S3 (=Doctoral program).

Institution Notes:

Founded as the Academy of Karawitan Arts in 1964 this institution was established in its present form in 2006. It is a public art institution consisting of two sections - School of Performing Arts and Faculty of Fine Art and Design. The School of Performing Arts has five departments: ethnomusicology, Karawitan (traditional performance), shadow puppetry, theatre and dance. There are major studies in music performance, theory/composition and research, with specialisation in Javanese styles. The Faculty owns a number of gamelans as well as other traditional instruments (angklungs, kulintang, glockenspiels). The Institute welcomes foreign students of which there is currently a large number.
