Institution Notes:

The University, formerly known as Central Hindu College, was founded in 1916 to preserve and promote popular Hindu culture. The College of Music and Fine Arts was established in 1950 to train students in both North Indian and South Indian vocal and instrumental music and dance. There is a flourishing department of musicology research. The Mahila Mahavidyalaya is a college of the university for women only.
