Details:
Visharad Diploma (Parts I and II). Studies include practical and theoretical work on Hindustani ragas and talas, history and construction of the sitar, schools of sitar playing, notation, guitar, composition, history and tuning of the tabla, schools of tabla playing. Normal age of admission is 20 years. Roughly equivalent to a Bachelor of Music.

Prathama Certificate. Two years. Studies in music and dance. Normal age of admission is 12 years. Madhyama Diploma. One year beyond the Prathama Certificate. Studies include Indian scale structures, ancient musical modes, ragas and their classification, talas, history of Hindustani music, dance. Normal age of admission is 16 years. There are programs in Spanish guitar, Hawaiian guitar, electronic keyboard and modern dance.
Institution Notes:
Founded in 1946 with the aim of revitalising ancient Indian values to suit modern needs, and of propagating Indian classical music and dance, the Academy specialises in Hindustani (North Indian) music, dance, drama and art. There are two departments – Sangeet Shikshapeeth (classical music - vocal Hindustani music, sitar, tabla, bayan) and Nartan Shikshapeeth (dance programs). The Academy is affiliated with the Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth at the University of Lucknow which confers its degrees, diplomas and certificates. The junior department offers music tuition to young children ages 6 to 10. Courses in Spanish guitar, Hawaiian guitar, electronic keyboard and modern dance are offered to interested members of the local community. There are branch schools in some 80 districts around India as well as in Kuwait, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.
