The University was founded in 1969 following the amalgamation of the Universities of Kashmir and Jammu. The Institute of Music and Fine Arts comprises one of three affiliated Oriental Colleges of the University. In addition to its professional degree program it offers a two-year preparatory course in music. Language of instruction is English.
