The museum was founded in 1984. It houses the collection of 200 rebuilt instruments from 2800 BC until the beginning of the twentieth century. In the museum is also a music school where concerts and special educational projects for children are organised. There is a music library, an electronic archive of scores and a musicology research department. The museum is currently listed as 'closed permanently'.
