This conservatory, founded in 1914, is the only government-supported conservatory in Greece. No fees are charged. The aim is to teach European music and to support and promote Greek music. The curriculum designed for this institution serves as a model to be applied to all conservatories throughout the country. Entry is following audition and solfège and basic theory tests. The average age for commencing studies is 12 years. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
