This Conservatory, founded in 1871 by the Athens Music and Drama Society, is the oldest conservatoire in modern Greece. It receives some government financial support and has been in existence for over 120 years, producing such artists as Dimitri Mitropoulos, Maria Callas, Gina Bachauer, Nana Mouskouri and Nikos Skalkotas. Some renovations to the building have recently take place. The Conservatoire offers programs in music, theatre and dance. Within the music area there are departments of classical music, Greek traditional music, jazz, Byzantine ecclesiastical music, contemporary voice and early music. An associate member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
