Institution Notes:

Founded in 1989, the University of Western Sydney has a number of campuses in the West Sydney area. Music programs are offered at the Penrith campus. The music program offers students an opportunity to study music technology, composition, music performance and musicology. The program canvasses a range of musics from the 20th and 21st century. It encompasses art musics, popular musics, electroacoustic musics and jazz as well as music from non-western cultures. The Music Area houses an instrument collection from the Asia-Pacific region, including Korean samul nori, steel pans from Trinidad and an array of percussion instruments from around the world. The large number of ensembles includes folk groups, popular music groups and art music ensembles. Orchestral projects and chamber music are undertaken in conjunction with local community music groups. The music area has state-of-the-art recording facilities. Composers work in a range of styles including art music, film music and popular music. On campus is the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Centre.
