Institution Notes:

The Hochschule für Musik Mainz forms the music department of the Johannes Gutenberg University and is also known as the Academy of Music'. The University itself was founded in 1477, and as such, is one of the oldest universities in Germany. Students wishing to enrol in a music course need to enrol in two places, both the University and the Hochschule. There is a small collection of Thai instruments and a number of recordings of tribal music of the region. There is co-operation with the Peter Cornelius Conservatorium in Mainz and a number of other institutions. The school organises an annual summer school for singers ('Singing Summer').
