Institution Notes:

Founded in 1409, the University of Leipzig is the second oldest in Germany. The institute of education (Musikpädagogik) was previously called 'Pädagogische Hochschule "Clara Zetkin'' Leipzig'. Past students include Telemann, C P E Bach, Schumann and Richard Wagner. The University has a museum with the largest collection of traditional musical instruments in Germany. Over 800 instruments are on display but there are over 5000 in total. The main collection consists of European keyboard, wind and stringed instruments of the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Some non-Western instruments are also held, including a Balinese gamelan.
