Institution Notes:
The University can trace its history back to 1946 and gained its current name and status in 1989. There is a Centre for World Music that offers workshops and performance tuition on non-Western instruments and organises a regular summer school. It holds an extensive sound archive and is an autonomous institution of the university, working closely with the Department of Music and Musicology. It owns a gamelan.
