Formerly known as the International Conservatorium of Music (Australia), the Academy of Music and Performing Arts is a private institution that can trace its history back to 1993. Facilities at the Surry Hills campus include well-equipped studios and recording facilities. The 300-seat Tom Man Theatre is a feature. The Academy offers programs in contemporary, jazz and classical music, music theatre, composition/music production, arts management and dance, with some emphasis on sacred music. A Village on Broadway program offers programs in dance and musical theatre. With a system of visiting local and international master teachers, links have been established with the St Petersberg Conservatorium (Russia), the Bratislava Conservatorium (Slovak Republic) and the Krakow Academy of Music (Poland). The Conservatorium runs a Talented Youth Program in classical or jazz performance, together with ensemble activities and music theory. A Performing Arts High School offers music studies at senior secondary levels to students wishing to concentrate on studies in preparation for possible careers in music. A community music school offers tuition to interested persons. Students who have completed the second year of the Advanced Diploma from the nearby Julius Events College may enrol in the third year of the Bachelor of Music degree. There is a second campus in Alexandria.
