Details:
Bachelor of Arts in Music. Three years. Studies include performance (piano, guitar, voice, jazz), music history, music education. Preparation for teaching music in elementary and primary schools but needs to be followed by a two-year Master program to gain the qualification.
Institution Notes:
The University was founded in 1962. The music department has links with the Department of Music Education at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China. There is an Institute for African Music, set up in Bavaria in 2006, and in 2012 it became affiliated with the Freiburg University of Education. The Hochschule aims to create an African music curriculum that may be used in German schools, and to develop a post-graduate certificate for teaching African music in pre-school and primary education. Resource books for the teaching and learning of African music in schools are being prepared.
