Bachelor of Music. Four years. Studies include performance (classical, jazz/pop, opera, early music), composition, instrumental conducting, musicology, music pedagogy, music education (for teaching at all school levels), Protestant or Catholic church music.
Master of Arts. In performance (historical performance practices, accompaniment, opera, musical theatre, oratorio), repetiteur training, composition, music pedagogy, music education, theatre and orchestra management, church music. Master of Contemporary Music. In instrumental playing, composition, conducting, sound engineering. Age limit is 30 years; 35 years for conductors and composers. All students are awarded scholarships. Doctor of Philosophy. In musicology, music education.
Konzertexamen. This is the highest post-graduate degree for advanced performance.
This University can trace its history back to 1878. It assumed various names before gaining its current name and status in 1938. There are divisions of music, drama and dance. The Hochschule offers an opera program as well as a program in music physiology. There are Institutes of Historical Interpretation Practice and Contemporary Music. The University cooperates closely with the International Ensemble Modern Academy. The Kronberg Academy provides talented students of violin, viola and cello with advanced performance tuition. Facilities include state-of-the-art recording studios and an electronic music studio. The University's Young Academy offers a program of studies for talented children aged between 10 and 18 years. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
