This University can trace its history back to 1878. It assumed various names before gaining its current name and status in 1938. There are divisions of music, drama and dance. The Hochschule offers an opera program as well as a program in music physiology. There are Institutes of Historical Interpretation Practice and Contemporary Music. The University cooperates closely with the International Ensemble Modern Academy. The Kronberg Academy provides talented students of violin, viola and cello with advanced performance tuition. Facilities include state-of-the-art recording studios and an electronic music studio. The University's Young Academy offers a program of studies for talented children aged between 10 and 18 years.
