Institution Notes:
The Academy of Sound Art (also known as Academy of Music) was founded in 1851 and gained its current name and status in 2012. There are several fine performance spaces. In addition to the professional program there is a community music program (City Music School) for young children and interested members of the local community giving practice teaching to students of the Academy and also giving rise to the name 'The University of Cooperative Education'. The Academy liaises closely with the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, the International Music Institute and the Darmstadt Jazz Institute.
