Bachelor of Arts. Studies include performance (classical, jazz/pop, folk), musicology, ethnomusicology, music education. Preparation for teaching music in schools but needs to be followed by the two-year Master program to gain the qualification.
Master of Arts: • in ethnomusicology(emphasis on Scandinavia, Turkey, east Asia and south-east Asia). • in music education. Gives the qualification for teaching music in schools.
The University of Bremen was founded in 1971. The Department of Music co-operates closely with the Music Department of the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen which organises the academic program and lessons in performance for its students. The Music Department hosts an Orchestral Academy, an Academy for Early Music and a Studio for New Music. The University offers Diploma and Magister programs in ethnomusicology in conjunction with the Übersee-Museum. This museum has a collection of traditional instruments and a collection of recordings of African music. A Young Students program offers talented students a chance to develop their skills prior to further professional study.
