Institution Notes:
Humboldt University was founded in 1829 and is the oldest university in Berlin. The musicology department forms part of the University’s Institut für Kultur- und Kunstwissenschaften, within the Philosophische Fakultät III. The Hermann von Helmloltz Cultural Centre holds a sound archive with a significant collection of ethnomusicological recordings. There is a Research Centre for Popular Music with activities in three general areas: research and project management, organisation of conferences and congresses, and teaching. The Centre publishes a Newsletter twice per year, and produces the magazine PopScriptum, Essays on Popular Music.
