Institution Notes:

Formerly known as the Hans Eisler Academy of Music, the Hochschule was established in 1950 to provide music training for students living in the eastern sector of the city. There are four departments: • Voice, opera, music theatre, directing. • Strings, harp, guitar. • Wind, percussion, choir and orchestral conducting, repetiteur training. • Piano, composition, electroacoustic music. Three Institutes are organised in conjunction with the Berlin University of the Arts: • the Jazz-Institute Berlin, • the Institute for New Music, and • the Kurt Singer Institute for Music Physiology and Musicians’ Health. Carl Philip Emanuel Bach Gymnasium is a preparatory school in which members of the music faculty teach talented students to prepare them for full-time music studies. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
