Undergraduate program

Bachelor of Arts. Three years. Majors in music, music business. Bachelor of Music. Three years: • in Performance (classical, jazz/pop). • in Music Education. Studies include instrumental and vocal pedagogy, wind band conducting, Suzuki method. Preparation for teaching music in schools but needs to be followed by the two-year Master program to gain the qualification. Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy. Three years.

The university was established in 1970. It houses the Leopold Mozart Centre for Music and Music Education, founded in 2008. The Leopold Mozart Centre consists of three institutes: • Institute of Music Education, Music Therapy and Musicology; • Institute of Elementary Music Education, Singing, String and Keyboard Instruments; • Institute of Wind Instruments, Percussion and Directing for Wind Ensembles. It links research and teaching in the disciplines of music education, musicology and music therapy with music performance training at conservatory level and is the result of the incorporation of large sections of the Augsburg branch of the former Nuremberg-Augsburg College of Music. A 'Music and Health' program for trainee musicians is concerned with the prevention of physical and mental health problems as they prepare to enter their chosen professions. A new building is in the planning stages.
