Workshops in performance of traditional French musics as well as traditional music of other parts of Europe.


Institution Notes:

This institution was founded in 1971. It offers part-time courses to interested children and adults and no diplomas are awarded. It specialises in oral traditional music and dance, with tuition on traditional instruments of the region, including Gascon bagpipe, fifre, hurdy-gurdy and accordion as well as music of other traditional cultures, including Portugal, Turkey, Catalonia and Lombardy, Arabo-Andalusian music and popular music of Greece. There is a program of instrument making. The Centre holds concerts and festivals, and has a program of publicising the musics of the region. It provides programs for school groups from kindergarten to high school. The library holds a significant collection of scores, photographs and recordings of traditional music. There are close links with the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Toulouse, the University of Toulouse-Jean Jaurès and the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle de Toulouse. A member of the Fédération des Associations de Musiques et Danses Traditionnelles.
