Licence Musicologie or Musique (= Bachelor of Arts). Three years. Studies include performance (classical, jazz), music history, ethnomusicology, aesthetics. Diplôme Universitaire de Musiciens Intervenant (DUMI) à l'école préélémentaire et élémentaire. Gives the qualification to teach music in pre-primary and primary schools.

Master Musique et Culture. Two years following the Licence. In performance, composition, music technology, musicology, ethnomusicology, sociology of music, aesthetics.
Institution Notes:
The University can trace its history back to 1621. Its music department was established in 1872. In 2009 the university was created in its current form from a merger of the Louis Pasteur University, Marc Bloch University and Robert Schumann University. University music students may enrol for practical studies either at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional or at the Hochschle für Musik de Karlsruhe. A group of music institutions in the region has established a project to research into philosophical, social, public and subjective aspects of considering music as an act. The 'Groupe de Recherches Expérimentales sur l'Acte Musical' comprises researchers from the Université de Strasbourg, the Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg and the Haute École des Arts du Rhin, together with a further group from the Franco-Allemande University and the Hochschule für Musik de Karlsruhe, concentrating on creating a binational Master degree centred on electro-acoustic composition.
