Details:
Licence Musique/Musicologie (= Bachelor of Arts). Three years. In musicology, ethnomusicology, jazz and improvised music, computer-assisted composition, music sociology, music administration, music technology, pedagogy. Diplôme d'État de professeur de musique (DE). May be taken concurrently with years 2 and 3 of the Bachelor. Gives the qualification for teaching music in schools.

Master Arts, mention Musicologie. Two years following the Licence. In performance, composition, music criticism, musicology, ethnomusicology, medieval music, sociology, psychology and anthropology of music. Diplôme d’études approfondies. Doctorat de musique.
Institution Notes:
Founded as an experimental academic centre in Vincennes in 1969, Université Paris VIII moved to Saint-Denis in 1980. Its main focus is on humanities, human sciences, arts and social sciences, and has become a central Pôle for education and research in the area of arts and letters for the Île de France. The music department houses a studio for electroacoustic composition which organises regular concerts on campus. There is a Centre for Ethnomusicological Research.
