Diplôme national supérieur professionnel de musicien (DNSPM) (= Bachelor of Music). Studies include performance (classical, jazz, early music), choral conducting, composition, electro-acoustic composition. Licence Musicologie or Musique (= Bachelor of Arts). Three years. Studies include performance (classical, jazz), music history, ethnomusicology, aesthetics. Taken at Rennes II University. Diplôme d’État de professeur de musique (DE). Gives the Licence to teach music in schools. May be taken concurrently with years 2 and 3 of the Bachelor.
Master of Arts in Performing Arts, mention Artist of Traditional Music. Offered in partnership with the Université de Bretagne Occidentale.
Diplôme d’études musicales (DEM). A two- to three-year pre-professional program in classical and contemporary music performance and associated studies which may include early music, music from Breton and Celtic areas, theory, aural skills and composition.
This Conservatoire, founded in 1846, is a public institution offering programs in music, classical and contemporary dance and drama. The programs have some emphasis on music, dance and culture of Breton and Celtic areas. There is close partnership with Université de Rennes II. There are centres in Nantes and Rennes. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
