Institution Notes:

The Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse, Lyon (CNSMDL) was established in 1980 and operates with complete financial autonomy under the aegis of the Ministry for Culture and Communication. It offers programs to both the general public as well as to students in the professional degree/diploma programs. General entry to the Conservatoire does not require the year 12 school Baccalauréat, but students wishing to complete the Bachelor's degree (offered in conjunction with the University of Lyon II) must have successfully obtained it prior to entry. Age limits are imposed, varying between 16 (minimum) and 30 (maximum) according to the instrument or discipline. Very talented younger students may be admitted for special instruction. Facilities include well-appointed performance spaces, well-equipped electronic music studios and recording facilities. The Nadia Boulanger multimedia library holds the Nadia Boulanger collection of some 80,000 items of printed music available for inter-library loan. The resources centre has also been endowed with collections formerly owned by Jean Martinon and Xavier Darasse. An International Joint Master Program in Contemporary Performance and Composition, hosted by the Conservatoire, is offered by four European partner institutions: • Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, • Eesti Muusike-ja Teatriakadeemia (Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre), • Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (Hamburg University of Music and Theatre), and • Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm (Royal College of Music in Stockholm). An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
