Diplôme d’études musicales (DEM). A two- to three-year pre-professional program in classical and jazz performance and associated studies which may include early music, theory, aural skills and composition.
Institution Notes:
The Conservatoire, originally established in 1821, is a public institution offering programs in music, classical and contemporary dance and drama. A jazz/contemporary music department was established in 2007. The program is organised in cycles. The first (preparatory) (éveil musical’), four years, the second, four years, the third ('cycle d’orientation professionnelle') and fourth ('cycle d’enseignement supérieur professionnelle'). The Conservatoire offers cycles one and two programs at several locations in the city of Bordeaux. In addition to the professional program there are programs for interested adults in the local community.
