Institution Notes:
The Academy was established in 1919 and is now regarded as equivalent to a university. It offers programs in music and drama. There are preparatory courses in composition and theory as well as a vocal preparatory course for singers wishing to enter the professional program. Language of instruction is Estonian. A new building was opened in the city centre in 1999. The library has significant collections of French and Finnish music. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
