This boys' choir can trace its history back to 1223, but it was in the seventeenth century that this choir and music school really began to gain in importance and recognition. The choir consists of around 50 boys aged from 10 years who attend the choir school where they are given a full curriculum of general education. All boys learn piano and have the choice of a second instrument, the most advanced being given the opportunity to learn organ. They sing daily at the Benedictine abbey Santa Maria de Montserrat and have recorded over 100 albums having given performances in Montserrat and in a number of other countries. Their choral style is of the typical Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony.
