The full name of this institution is Valery Khalilov Moscow Suvorov Military Music College (Moskovskoye Voyenno-Muzykal'noye Uchilishche), one of the leading military music institutions in Russia. It can trace its history back to 1937, and was formerly affiliated with the P I Tchaikovsky Conservatorium in Moscow. Following a four-year training period the young male musicians are eligible to become members of Army and Air Force bands throughout the country, with possible future careers as bandsmen, band conductors and drum majors. Specialist performing groups include the Marching Band and the Drum Corps. Band repertoire includes traditional military marches and classical compositions as well as jazz and popular music pieces by Russian and foreign composers.
