Institution Notes:
Taif University is a public institution founded in 2004. As part of its National Transformation Initiative of 2020 the university's Poetry Academy has announced a course in poetry writing, recitation and music. This is the first Saudi Arabian University or higher education institution to offer a music program. In its current form the Poetry Academy offers courses in poetry writing, recitation and basic courses in music - performance on 'ud, dulcimer and piano, solfège, singing of standard Arabic poetry and training for teaching music. The music courses are not part of an academic track, but are very popular with students, and there is a possibility that musicology could be offered in the future as part of a degree program. The University has formed partnerships with some universities in the United States of America.
