Undergraduate program

Diploma of Music (=Bachelor). Three years. Studies include performance (Western, jazz, traditional instruments), Congolese music and civilisations, music history, ethnomusicology, theory, composition, music theatre, music technology, pedagogy. For teaching in schools or playing in official instrumental groups.

The Institute was established in 1967 and was given its current name in 1976. It is a college of training organised into three departments – classical music, drama and cultural activities - planned to occupy a brand new site on the Rond-point Ezo in central Kinshasa. The Institute organises a pre-college course to prepare students to enter the undergraduate program. The Musical Instrument Repair Workshop is available to students as well as to local members of the community.
