Institution Notes:
Victoria College of Music and Drama is not a teaching body. Founded in 1890 it functioned as a conservatoire with a full teaching program but after the Second World War its activities were restricted to preparing examination syllabuses and organising examination schedules. Today the college operates a system of graded and diploma examinations in music, speech and drama and covers areas and instruments that are unavailable in other systems. Diplomas are awarded as follows: Diploma of Victoria College of Music and Drama (DipVCM); Associate of Victoria College of Music (AVCM) - in either teacher or performer, in composition, conducting, research or theory; Licentiate of Victoria College of Music (LVCM) - in either teacher or performer, in composition, conducting, research or theory; Fellow of Victoria College of Music (FVCM) - in either teacher or performer, in composition, conducting, research or theory; Certificated Teacher (CT,VCM). Honorary Life Membership (HonVCM) is awarded to people who have given many years of service to the College. The College of Violinists, founded in 1890, became affiliated with Victoria College of Music in 1962. It offers the following Diplomas: Associate of the College of Violinists (ACV) and Licentiate of the College of Violinists (LCV) - both by examination - and Fellow of the College of Violinists (FCV) for services to the arts. The College has a publishing section, the London Music Press, that publishes music that may be used in the examinations as well as tutors for performance.
