There are departments of performance, conducting, composition, opera/musical theatre, theory, popular music (established in 1996), music education, humanities and foreign languages. The conservatory consists of a general secondary school program (with emphasis on music) and the pre-university music program. Language of instruction is Czech. Short-term programs of performance study are available for both Czech and foreign students. The archives form one of the richest collections of its kind in Central Europe, with particular emphasis on nineteenth century materials. The conservatory is next door to the Rudolfinum, the seat of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
