Details:

Diploma. Studies include performance, singing, piano tuning. Each student learns to play two instruments (or one instrument and voice). There are courses in theory, composition, conducting and general education subjects, Braille notation as well as a Cultural Activity Program.


Institution Notes:

This institution began in 1910 as a charity school for blind youth. Since its inception music has increased in importance. This Conservatory is unique in that it enrols mostly visually handicapped students. It comprises both a secondary school and a conservatory for specialised music study. Entry is by audition and students enter at age 15, completing Maturitá after five years. Two further years lead to the diploma (Absolutorium). The piano tuning/repairing program takes two years. Currently over 92% of graduate students are in full employment. Language of instruction is Czech. There is a collection of instruments for loan to students. Member of the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment.
