Institution Notes:
New World Symphony was established in 1987. It is involved with preparing gifted music graduates for leadership positions in orchestras and ensembles, offering intensive exposure to traditional and modern repertoire and involves leading guest conductors, soloists and coaches. Fellowship students have made a number of orchestral recordings and have participated in many public concerts. Fellowships are awarded on a season-to-season basis for up to three seasons and include individual coaching as well as intensive orchestral and smaller ensemble training. Fellows receive a weekly stipend, assistance with travel and housing costs and may be eligible for loans for the purchase of new instruments. New World Symphony has had a pioneering role in the use of Internet2, an advanced broadband technology whereby musicians give and receive lessons, work with composers and share musical insights with specialists in related fields. There is a program of digital engagement with building of websites and using new technologies for collaborative performance-based work. Apart from the performance training all students are involved with music activities in such places as schools and free concerts in community centres. They are also involved in both domestic and international touring. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
