Institution Notes:

The University was established in 2005 when the former Institute of Aesthetic Studies at the University of Kelaniya became this autonomous institution. There are three faculties - Dance and Drama, Music, and Visual Arts. The Faculty of Music consists of six departments - South Indian (Karnatic) music, North Indian classical music, Western music, musicology, ethnomusicology, and applied music. Indian drumming is offered in the Department of Percussion Music in the Faculty of Dance and Drama. The University houses the C de S Kulathilake Center for Research and Information with its archive of rare and valuable audio-video recordings in the music field. Facilities include a state-of-the-art recording studio and computer labs. Language of instruction is Sinhala, but students are required to study English language.
