Institution Notes:
The Institution was created in 1968 to carry out advanced research in the humanities. It consists of two departments - a) archaeology and anthropology, and b) medieval studies, history of science and musicology, with some emphasis on knowledge and heritage in urban spaces. It is not a teaching body, but publishes an annual yearbook of research into Spanish music 'Monumentos de la Música Española'. The Institute catalogues and issues critical studies of Spanish musical sources. It organises courses and musicological conferences. There is an extensive library.
