Institution Notes:

The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts can trace its history back to 1841. The Musicological Institute was established in 1886 and is not a teaching institution. It engages in research into Serbian folk music and music of Serbian composers. Master and Doctor degrees are awarded for research in musicology and ethnomusicology. A collection of ethnomusicological material covers Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro. There is a project for the recording of Serbian folk music. A branch of the Institute is in Novi Sad.
