It was granted its current name in 2004. The Conservatory offers two programs of modular study: • the Regular Program. Three levels - preparatory, elementary and intermediate. On completion a diploma is awarded, qualifying students to apply to enter a university music program. • the Amateur Program. Individual lessons and ensemble performance offered to interested members of the public. 'Music Education in Remote and Underprivileged Areas' is an education and cultural project bringing classical Arabic and Western music to marginalised Palestinian children and youth in their own environment in Hebron, Jericho, Tubas, Salfeit, Al Jalazon Refugee Camp and the Old City in Jerusalem. A regular concert series is organised in each of the branches and competitions, workshops and music campus and summer programs form part of the program. The Conservatory's production unit has released a number of CDs of Palestinian and other Arabic music performed by local artists, while its publication unit has produced music materials for the performance and theory programs. The Conservatory makes use of the Birzeit University's Activity Center for some of its activities, such as orchestral rehearsals and the hosting of summer and winter camps. The Palestine Youth Orchestra, the Palestine National Orchestra and the Palestine Strings ensemble are administered by the Conservatory.
