Institution Notes:
The University can trace its history back to 1984, and was founded in 1995 from the merger of several Palestinian Arab colleges in Jerusalem and its suburbs. There is a smaller campus for girls in the al-shiekjara area of Jerusalem. The Ethnomusicology Research and Studies Center aims to contribute to the preservation of Palestinian musical heritage and to disseminate this history to others. Since Palestinian libraries lack specialised books and resources on ethnomusicology the Center will be able to provide students and researchers with a suitable atmosphere to do effective work in this field. It publishes an academic periodical presenting the research and studies of the Centre, and is establishing a data base on materials related to ethnomusicology and Palestinian folklore.
