Institution Notes:
The Institute, founded in 1948, is not a teaching institution, but specialises in interdisciplinary research into Croatian folk music and ethnomusicology. In the New Ethnography Library there is a significant sound, film and manuscript archive of traditional Croatian music, dance and theatre costume; some study of far-eastern musics also takes place. Recently the Digital Repository of the Institute for Ethnology and Folklore Research (DIEF) was established. The Institute publishes the Croatian National Folk Art magazine (Narodna Umjetnost) twice a year.
