The Conservatorio was founded in 1804. The library holds a collection of letters and autograph manuscripts of Verdi as well as the library of Padre Martini and first editions of works by Albeniz, Bossi, Busoni, Debussy, Grieg, Martucci and Skryabin. There is a collection of braille scores. In addition to the professional program the Conservatorio offers music tuition to children and interested members of the local community. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
