Bachillerato en Música. Studies include performance (classical, opera), choral conducting, music history, theory, pedagogy. Licenciatura en Música (=Bachelor). A music education program for teaching in schools.
Institution Notes:
The university was founded in 1974. Forming part of the university’s Centro de Investigación Docencia y Extensión Artística, the Centre for the Arts consists of Schools of Art and Visual Communication, Dance, Scenic Arts and Music. There is an active opera workshop program. The emphasis in the music school is on music education, preparing music teachers for elementary and secondary schools. It stresses the use of indigenous Costa Rican music and folklore. A junior department provides music training to children from age 4.
