Institution Notes:

Created in 1987 by the Ministry of Culture, the Centre aims to rediscover, restore, edit and distribute the French musical heritage of the 17th and 18th centuries. It is associated with the national museum of Versailles and produces a season of concerts each year. The Centre consists of four departments: • Research centre, which also is in the process of creating a computer data base PHILADOR, currently containing some 50,000 files on the music of the period. The library contains over 20,000 books, scores and microfilms of manuscripts and original editions; there is a costume collection of over 500 baroque period costumes. • Publishing department. Up till now it has edited 160 volumes of 250 works, comprising almost 12,000 pages of music. • Department of musical productions. Since 1987 this department has programmed more than 1000 concerts of baroque music at the Château and in the city of Versailles, elsewhere in France and abroad, and has revived 1200 French works of the period. More than 100 CDs have been produced. • Department of Education, providing ongoing training for 100 children and 20 or so students wishing to become choristers and/or professional solo singers. It also trains students from both French and foreign universities in musicology who are working on papers and dissertations.
