Bachelor of Music. Three years. A jazz- or contemporary-oriented program with concentrations in performance, composition, music production. Bachelor of Music Theatre/Bachelor of Performing Arts (Music Theatre). Three years. Studies include acting, singing, dance/movement, voice training. Offered through the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art.

Institution Notes:

Formerly known as the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology, this institution merged with Aoraki Polytechnic in 2016 and was given the name Ara Institute of Canterbury. The School of Performing Arts offers programs in circus arts, information design, music theatre and musical arts. The National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art (NASDA) forms part of the Music Theatre department. It is a drama school specialising in training actors who can also sing and dance. The Jazz School has been operating since 1991 and the Musical Arts degree is a recent outcome of its activities. Facilities include a 200-seat auditorium and state-of-the-art studios and equipment. There is a foundation program to prepare students for entry to the professional program.
