Institution Notes:
The University can trace its history back to 1969 and was granted its current name and status in 2010. It has campuses in Joensuu and Kuopio. Church music programs are taken at the Joensuu campus. Based in Joensuu is the International Society for Orthodox Church Music which issues a peer-reviewed journal of church music research. Music education and teacher training programs are taken in Savonlinna. Musicology studies are taken in association with the Conservatorium of Joensuu whose students may also take subjects at the university. Member of the University of the Arctic.
