Institution Notes:

The University of Kabul was founded in 1932, and is the country’s most important institute of higher education. The Faculty of Fine Arts was first opened in 1967, and the music department was established in 1982. The department of music and its books and instruments were destroyed during the civil war of the 90s. Reconstruction commenced in 2001 and the first classes were held in March 2002. Music instruments have been donated to both the Eastern and Western music departments but both are currently in need of books on music theory to function properly.
