Institution Notes:

The University of the West Indies (UWI) was founded in 1948 as a college of the University of London. It was granted full university status in 1962, and operates in 16 English-speaking countries and territories in the Caribbean. The UWI campus in Mona, Jamaica is the headquarters of the system, and besides this there are other major university centres in UWI Cave Hill (Barbados), UWI St. Augustine (Trinidad and Tobago), and UWI Five Islands (Antigua and Barbuda). Additionally there is the regional UWI Open Campus that has site locations scattered among various Caribbean nations enabling students to undertake studies using distance, blended, online and face-to-face learning modes. The full complement of countries serviced in physical or virtual sites by UWI are: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks & Caicos Islands, ensuring that a wide cross-section of the Caribbean population has access to a variety of university programs by on-site or distance mode. Full music programs are available to enrolled students, but are offered only at the Jamaica (Mona) and Trinidad (St Augustine) campuses. Since full-time programs in music are offered only at the St Augustine campus in Trinidad and the Mona campus in Jamaica, music students in these other countries must move to either Trinidad or Jamaica to take full-time music study.
