Institution Notes:

A private co-educational music college founded in 1907 as the Toyo Conservatory of Music, thus being the oldest private school of music in Japan. In 1954 it became the Oriental Music College, and in 1963 gained its current name and status. Facilities include an extensive music library, a recording studio, a computer laboratory, numerous practice rooms, a 711-seat concert hall, a 270-seat recital hall, a 250-seat multiple usage performance space, an Institute of Ethnomusicology (with emphasis on Indonesian music and dance) and a Traditional Japanese Music House. The college owns a Javanese gamelan. An attached music high school enables students to receive music tuition from music faculty staff at the College. The College organises a Music Academy offering music studies to children aged 6 to 14, and a Music Kindergarten for children aged 3 to 5. There are relationships with Kobe College and Showa University in sharing of expertise in teaching. The Tokyo College of Music Symphony Orchestra has made several overseas tours. There is an exchange agreement with the School of Music at Bloomington, Indiana. Short-term study programs are available.
