Institution Notes:

A private co-educational music college founded in 1915 and was chartered as a university in 1958. The college houses a pipe organ, an opera house with resident professional chorus and orchestra, a state-of-the-art electronic music laboratory, a museum holding over 3,500 musical instruments from around the world and the largest music library in western Japan with over 188,000 reference materials and some 43,700 music scores. There is also a vast archival collection of documents and audio-visual materials about the development of Western music in the Kansai area and materials of traditional Japanese music in the area. There are several fine performance spaces. An attached junior college offers music tuition in various styles to talented young people.
